House Representative Bills for the Amendments of Some Sections Violence Against Persons Act 2015 to abrogate Harmful widowhood Practices
To help make life worthy of living for the Nigerian widows, Honourable Adejero Adeogun and Sergius in March , 2022 sponsored bills seeking to amend the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act ( VAPP) 2015 to stop all forms of discrimination against Widows and degrading widowhood practices in Nigeria.

This write up is an urgent call to the sponsors of these bills, Woman Affair Minister- Pauline Tallen,and House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila to step up efforts to ensure the passage of this all important bills before the end of the 9th Assembly.
Nigerian widows need to breathe fresh air, this can only be possible if these bills are passed into law now with immediate implementation in all states of the Federation and FCT.
We at Aegis Widows Support Network, arm of Aegis Empowerment Initiative, joins UN Women to celebrate 2022 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
GBV is an annual campaign that beginning from 25 November- the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs through International Human Rights Day on 10 December.
We are using opportunity to call on the 9th Assembly especially the promoters
of the Amendments of the VAPP Act of 2015 to fast track actions to amend this Act to save the Nigerian widows from harmful widowhood practices and human right abuses.
